Recap: Part 2 October-November

So, to continue the recap of the year so far, in October we had two important holidays, one was a Jewish Holiday which is called Sukkot, or the Feast of the Tabernacles, so we decided that we would make our own Tabernacle, or Sukkah, out side our apartment.  My mom decided a better name for it was our 'Jewish Disco' though.

A more traditional sukkah, apparently it's not common to decorate it with lights...
The second important holiday was of course, Halloween!  My mom and brother brought back old costumes of The Bride of Frankenstein and a Knight, but I decided to go a different direction and be a zombie princess ;)

No, my dad did not dress up, he does not like Halloween very much, but two people decided to dress up as him ;)

Also in October, the BYU students studying here (did I forget to mention that's why my family is over here, my dad is teaching the study abroad students here), and the faculty families had a unique opportunity to take part in an annual olive pressing where we pick olives from the olive trees around the center and we grind them up and press them until they become olive oil.

Sam even took a few turns pressing the olives!

November:  THANKSGIVING!  Thanks to my wonderful mother, we had a Thanksgiving as close to normal as we could.
We got a Turkey from the U.S. Consulate

We also watched a Thanksgiving favorite

My fabulous mom even made pumpkin pies!

Overall, we were able to have a normal Thanksgiving, setting aside the fact that out the window was the Old City... ;)
